Application Checklist for Distance Learning Programs
Ia. Applicants to the Master’s program are required to register for and take the online entrance exam in Latin. Please see Information for Applying Students on the Distance learning homepage for further information and deadlines.
Ib. Applicants to the PhD program are required to complete an on-campus visit. Please allow at least a half-day for this visit, which will include a 90-minute sight translation exam of standard Latin authors, and short interviews with the Director and available faculty. Please see Information for Applying Students on the Distance learning homepage for the recommended dates of the campus visit.
II. Complete all items in the Graduate School’s Admissions Checklist. Be sure to apply for Summer B enrollment, not Fall. N.B.: We require GRE scores only for Master’s applicants, not Ph.D. applicants.
III. In addition to the Graduate School’s requirements (see Heading II), also include the following in your online application:
- Letters of Recommendation (two for Master’s applicants, three for Ph.D. applicants) by mail to the address below with the accompanied form (pdf), if not submitted online
- Statement of Purpose.
IV. Send directly to the Department of Classics (at the address below):
- A current letter on letterhead from a supervisor verifying employment as a teacher.
- A writing sample (required for Ph.D. applicants; optional for Master’s applicants).
- Optional items: unofficial transcripts; letters of recommendation.
