Students who major in the Classical Studies are preparing themselves for a wide variety of careers and for graduate programs. Our program offers a wide range of courses that allow students to hone their skills in interpersonal communication, writing, and critical thinking. Students gain critical problem-solving skills such as critical thinking and data analysis through linguistic, literary, and historical study of the societies of ancient Greece and Rome.
Classical studies is an interdisciplinary major, with specializations in ancient language and classical civilization that offer students instruction in the history, literature, and culture of the ancient Greeks and Romans. These two specializations require proficiency in Latin or ancient Greek. The department also offers the option for students to specialize in Modern Greek with instruction in the language, literature, and culture of modern Greece and requires proficiency in modern Greek.
