Graduate Student in Classical Studies
About
Cristian Șimon is a Fulbright Master’s student in the Department of Classics, currently working on a thesis on the syntax of proper names in Ancient Greek, with a focus on the language of the Attic orators, under the guidance of Dr. Eleni Bozia. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Philology and a Master’s degree in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics from the University of Bucharest, Romania. His research interests primarily lie in the formal (generative) syntax of Latin, Ancient Greek, and Romanian, particularly the determiner phrase (DP). In addition to syntax, he has also published on other areas of Latin and Greek linguistics, including lexicology and pragmatics. He is a member of the Palatine Anthology project led by Dr. Simona Nicolae at the Romanian Academy, where he is involved in the translation and commentary of the Greek epigrams. Furthermore, he serves as a volunteer in the Language Documentation Lab at the University of Florida, working on a project on the Zapotec and Choctaw languages led by Dr. Aaron Broadwell.
